Introducing Boresha Health Clinic…

Boresha Health Clinic

Boresha Health Clinic: Offering Quality Child HealthCare Treatment In Kenya

The establishment of Boresha Health Clinic marks the improvement of medical health care specifically catered to children in Kenya.

This is very important because there are few establishments that are dedicated almost exclusively for the child in Kenya.

As a result, the death rate for children under the age of 5 has been on the increase due to lack of access to quality medical care.

Kenya Ranked 39th Globally In Under- 5 Deaths

According to research from the Kenya Parliament and UNICEF, over 7 million children under-5 years of age die each year mainly from preventable and treatable conditions.

Pneumonia, diarrhoea and malaria remain the leading cause of child mortality, and under nutrition contributes to more than 1/3 of all deaths.

Millions of children could be saved each year if proven interventions such as antibiotics for pneumonia, oral rehydration therapy for diarrhoea, and the provision of insecticide treated nets (ITNs) to prevent malaria, were universally available.

While infant and under-5 mortality rates have declined since 1990, mainly due to programs in childhood immunization and malaria prevention, Kenya is still ranked the 39th country with the highest deaths globally.1, 6 Kenya is not on track to meet MDG 4 to reduce the under-5 mortality by two thirds between 1990 and 2015.

There is need for better equipped, professional child medical centers in Kenya to reduce these statistics.

Introducing Boresha Health Clinic, Makutano

Boresha Health Clinic was established to fill this gap in the Kenyan medical space.

Thanks to its convenient location in Makutano, Meru, the clinic will prevent unnecessary loss of time that parents have to undergo when their child falls sick. Depending on the severity of the illness, many parents are forced to seek medical counsel in Nairobi, a 5-hour drive away.

With the opening of the Clinic, parents from Meru, Nanyuki, Embu, Nkubu and Chuka now have a professional facility within reach.

The Clinic has moved quickly to sign up with the major insurance providers ensuring that anyone under any medical approved plan can access medical attention at the Clinic.

The Clinic has been fitted with the latest medical machines, scanners and equipment to ensure that no one is left stranded.

In fact, the promise of the institution is to “improve the health of the community by offering accessible, reliable  and affordable quality Health care services guided by Christian and professional values as inspired by the healing Ministry of Jesus Christ.”

Networking

Boresha Health Clinic will seek to collaborate with and work with the Government Line Ministries, other health care providers, local and international bodies such as churches, non–government organizations, communities and individuals to facilitate promotion and access of healthcare services in the community.

Objectives

  1. To provide quality health care services to the children and the community at large.
  2. To improve the quality of life of children and the community.
  3. To create awareness about health related issues.
  4. Improve access to healthcare services

Three Pillars Of Service

The clinic offers primary care services that can be categorized under three pillars:-

  • Preventive Services
  • Psychological Counseling
  • Curative Services

Preventive Services

Preventive care includes things such as regular check-ups, screenings and immunizations.

It may be covered without cost-sharing when you visit a doctor that is in your health plan’s network.

You may be eligible for free preventive screenings, like blood pressure and cholesterol tests, mammograms, colonoscopies, and more.

Preventive care lets your doctor find potential health problems BEFORE you feel sick.

Preventive care can include immunizations, lab tests, physical exams and prescriptions, where applicable. Diagnostic services help your doctor understand your symptoms or diagnose your illness.

Psychological Counseling

Counseling Psychology is a specialty within professional psychology that maintains a focus on facilitating personal and interpersonal functioning across the life span.

The specialty pays particular attention to emotional, social, vocational, educational, health-related, developmental, and organizational concerns.

The Clinic supports a broad spectrum of needs focusing on children and adults, including.

  • Child counseling,
  • ART Adherence for HIV positive children,
  • Adolescence counseling,
  • Post rape counseling and trauma counseling,
  • Couple counseling
  • HIV testing counseling.

Curative Services

According to Wikipedia, curative care is “…is the health care given for medical conditions where a cure is considered achievable, or even possibly so, and directed to this end.”

The Clinic will therefore provide services that include:
1. Mother Child Health care: Immunization, reproductive health services, health education and individual based counseling.
2. Antenatal clinics: Antenatal services to expectant mothers in a friendly environment
3. Well baby clinic: Immunization and growth monitoring services to children.
4. Community Health Education: Community health education through schools, outreaches and barazas’

In addition to these three pillars, Boresha Health Clinic will contain a fully stocked Pharmacy, a dispensing unit which is well equipped with the latest drugs and is a member of Mission for Essential Drugs (MEDS).
It will also offer Lab services offering a range of tests with accurate, precise and meaningful results with an acceptable speed of delivery.

Pleasant Environment

The Clinic opens its doors from 9 – 5 pm every day.

Situated 20 meters from Makutano Junction, on your way to Deliverance Church and Kinoru Stadium, Boresha Health Clinic sits on well manicured gardens. The walls of the facility are attractively designed to appeal to children and make them feel at ease.

The Clinic is manned by a Clinical Officer, a registered nurse, laboratory technologist, a counselor and a clinic administrator.

Day by day operations will be supervised by a Board of Management subcommittee headed by renowned business and entrepreneurship scholar and comprises a team of professionals with a wealth of experience in healthcare and business management.
