Victory over Fear by Margaret Muthoni
Nothing can stop me from doing what I have to do. I have lived with HIV virus for 18 years now, been faced with grave challenges in a community where discrimination has thrived but I am now not afraid. Persuaded that information is power, in my search I came across Ripples International in 2004 and my life was transformed. It is here I met others like myself who lived positively and hopefully.

Now trained in Paralegal skills, ART, Memory Book, ART, Home Based Care, Ambassadors of hope I am armed as a community resource person, a job I love to do.I know for sure that apart from the bond with her family and the psychosocial support from Ripples International, I would not have lived long to care for my daughter who is now awaiting to join nursing after successful completion of her secondary level education.

With a minimal loan from RI and TCI I managed to resume farming at our family farm in Isiolo and open a second-hand clothes store. My dignity has been restored; I now do not have to beg from people, who mostly are not able to offer the help I need. I am now able to care for myself and sponsor my medical care. I thank God for my family and for Ripples International.

Who we are:
While supporting Orphaned and Vulnerable Children in the community, it was identified that many households were not able to sustain themselves or their children with adequate support through income generation, as well as nutritional support. In order to benefit households with access to both, our community empowerment project was developed. Through this project, we are able to identify households in need of support and provide them with a means of nutritional support and income.

Services:
We offer nutritional and economic support to OVC through provision of:
• Dairy Goats Distribution
• Chicken Distribution
• Seed Distribution

Achievements & Challenges:
Achievements
• Distribution of almost 240 goats
• Distribution of 250 chickens to the community
• Distribution of over 470 kgs of maize seeds

Challenges
• Community ownership of goats distributed to households
• Monitoring and Evaluation of Program

Future Plans:
• Change focus of distribution support to sustainability of households in the community
• Increase number of goats and chickens distributed to households
• Distribution of goats returned to RI in order to benefit more children
