& Shelter for Abused Girls Quick Reads... Funded by Lady Brenda Boone from USA, Brenda Boone Hope [Tumaini] Centre for girls was birthed out of the great need to address the issue of blatant child abuse experienced in the region. From its community outreaches for the care and support of children, RI established that many children especially girls faced sexual and brutal physical abuse mostly from close relatives, the urgent need for child therapy sessions, counseling services to some clients and their immediate reinstatement to the community was in some cases more hazardous as awareness by the victims was a threat to the perpetrators. Community
Support for Orphaned & Vulnerable Children Quick Reads... This is the outreach to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) aged 3 to 17 years residing in the communities in the care of either aged caregivers. Each case should be related to HIV in one way or the other. It is the backbone of the care and support project. Summarily, we mitigate the impact of HIV and other social concerns by building the capacity of the communities, to provide comprehensive services ensuring that OVC live quality and productive lives within their households. Services Quick Reads... RI has found it essential that health provision to children particularly those living with HIV be provided in a structured manner. Since inception in 2002, RI provided such services in collaboration with the District hospital but due to capacity limitations, many children especially those with traumatized caregivers have restricted the health care of the children to their convenience. Community
Empowerment Quick Reads... While supporting Orphaned and Vulnerable Children in the community, it was identified that many households were not able to sustain themselves or their children with adequate support through income generation, as well as nutritional support. In order to benefit households with access to both, our community empowerment project was developed. Through this project, we are able to identify households in need of support and provide them with a means of nutritional support and income. Click here to read more |
